Katie

About Katie Elliott and the classes

Katie Elliott co-directs 3rd Law Dance/Theater with her husband, Jim LaVita. Her athletic style incorporates full-bodied movement with clean articulation and quick dynamic changes in direction and intention. All of her movements, whether a small gesture or a large locomotion, are initiated from the center of the body. She encourages dancers to find efficient execution of movement by investigating momentum and different dynamic qualities.

Each class progresses logically using a consistent vocabulary throughout, from a thorough warm-up into accumulative across-the-floor patterns to a final center combination. Proper alignment and technical execution are emphasized, passionate performance is mandatory, and enjoying dance is paramount!

Although Elliott's choreography and teaching method are unique, her movement is informed by her training in the modern dance techniques of José Limón, Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, as well as her earlier training in ballet. Elliott received her BFA from the University of Utah and has taught master classes for numerous university dance programs throughout the US, as well as on-going classes for 3rd Law Dance/Theater in Boulder, CO.
